This is a boy who has had quite the life behind him in his young years!
Mickey ended up with me over and over again! Boomerang boy, sadly returned every time with some extra issues…
Long story short – I took him on after he was too much for the owner, trained him up for the police. He licensed with the police – with flying colours! – and then become too dominant for the handler. He went to the next force and ended up biting there.. After finding his way back to me a 3rd time I’ve decided to keep him!
Although he had many interests such as Counter Terrorism Police as well as Belmarsh and Wakefield prison service, however the handler in need of a dog never quite sounded right to me. I might have annoyed those services with too many conversations but my gut said no on all those occasions. I do not want to risk having him passed around any more then he already was because if I let him go again and he’d come back AGAIN he might be too far gone! He is a handful, a dominant dog who will question your actions. Everything a Mali should be! I personally respect and admire those traits! He deserves to be with someone who does – end of.
Because of the amount of time this dog needed to rehabilitate his habits of dominating everyone and winning, I was as on the fence whether he’s staying or going. Thinking about my youngsters I have commited to and it not feeling fair to have less time for them whilst I put all my efforts and energy in a dog I never asked to have! I can devide my time only so much… I’ll be honest, as much as he’s an absolute dream dog for work he was also an extreme handful and required (still does!) full attention any time of getting him out and a calm demeanor with a confidence presence AT ALL TIMES. The 3rd time I got the call that he will be returned withing the next few days I’ve had a litter (the Q’s) on the ground and then not long after I’ve had two females in season… So you can imagine it was not an ideal time to take on a proper ‘problem child’! Therefor I was keen to home him to the absolute RIGHT person. Somewhere where he wouldn’t return again with a bunch of new issues as I knew that would be too much for mself as well then and the only option left would have been a one way trip to the vet sadly soon! Whilst I was trying to find this unicorn and believe me I have searched far and wide (!!) I had no choice but to daily work on him and work through all the issues caused in the past. I muzzle trained him and started to touch him all over his body – something he did not allow anyone to do at some point – I’ve kept him fully seperate from the others just for safety reasons. It wasn’t just by choice, I’ve had no other option to work through it. Once my Unicorn search hit the 3 months point I have build a pretty good bond with my beasty boy! He’d let me do far more then I’d imagined he’d possibly ever would and our bond is definitely getting stronger day by day. He is finally settling and relaxing! Sods law has it I have then found that unicorn I think he would be ok with! An Irish ex-Army dog handler… However.. tight up with work he couldn’t have come over to pick him up for another month which would be a point of where I can no longer let him go, thinking about him starting all over again now that he’s starting to show me proper trust I’d not be able to do. Besides that he’s the ultimate challenge to me, a dog I have not come across before where he’s at the age of under 2yo (!) has managed to dominate several strong dog handlers!! I totally admire this beast of an animal and think he’s an absolute speciesism of the breed. I can just see how far we’d come in another 6 months… I would most likley forever regret if I’d give him up. Would my life be easier – hell yes!! But would I forever regret to let the one dog go that challanged me to my limits? Another hell yes!! Therefor he is the new man on the block and I am exhaustingly excited to see how far we can get together :).

Mickey’s pedigree is very raw, old and strong. Lots of lines I already have or know so I understand him possibly better then others, but for me he is an awesome dog!He has fit into my pack when he was young and he does now.
He‘s a cousin to Savage! Xia’s grand parents are in his line and Lucy’s mum is in him too!!
He reminds me a lot of Keith ❤️ and he will now take over the male role so Keith can fully retire finally.
Mick and Keith always said it:
‘You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well, you just might find
You get what you need’
😉
Welcome to the pack Mickey!
